Our Top Pick Of The Week is for pancake and waffle lovers who want some more excitement on their plates. Those who have only used store-bought mixes are in for a surprise with Southern Culture Artisan Foods: pancakes and waffles with such beautiful flavor that we couldn’t stop eating them—pancakes so flavorful that no maple syrup was required. (Of course, you can use it.)
And what flavor: There are 17 flavors, in fact. We’ve only tried a few of them, but we now plan to work our way through the line in alphabetical order, since each flavor calls out to us.
The berry flavors are flavored with berry powder—fresh berries that are dehydrated and ground into a powder, imbuing the pancakes or waffles a the essence of the berry. On top of that, small bits of freeze-dried berries add texture and bursts of flavor.
Red Velvet delivers the most beautiful color, on top of the best red velvet flavor we could ask for.
And on and on, Southern Culture offers an exploration of what flavored waffles can be.

WHAT TO MAKE FIRST?
Beyond a breakfast or brunch of pancakes or waffles, we suggest:
Chicken and waffles with flavored waffles: Bourbon Salted Pecan? Sweet Potato?
Waffles Benedict: Eggs Benedict with a waffle instead of an English muffin.
Dessert sundae with any flavor, topped with ice cream, whipped cream, and optional dessert sauces and nuts.
Pancakes “Suzette,” an adaptation of Crêpes Suzette, flambéed with orange liqueur. Use this recipe as a guide, but don’t try to make thin crêpes with the batter. Just try for thin-ish pancakes (it’s easy to do).
