GOURMET GIVEAWAY: Delicious Daisy Bouquet From Edible Arrangements

Why make or buy dessert and a centerpiece when you can have a glamorous fruit arrangement to serve as both? Edible Arrangements produces gourmet fruit baskets that look like flowers. They’re not only gorgeous to look at, but low calorie to boot.

Each piece of fruit is affixed to a long wooden skewer, which makes eating it fun. Cantaloupe and honeydew are hand-sculpted into leaf-like shapes, along with pineapple daisies with melon ball centers, rosebud strawberries and grapes skewered into into exotic blooms. There will be one heck of a “wow” when the cellophane-wrapped “bouquet” arrives. And you just may discover your favorite new party dessert.

Read our review of Edible Arrangements, a NIBBLE Top Pick Of The Week.

  • THE PRIZE: One winner will receive the Delicious Daisy bouquet shown at right, with strawberries, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe and grapes arranged in a ceramic container—a nice gift, family treat or reason to entertain. Approximate retail value: $35.00.

Eat the “flowers” from Edible Arrangements, petal by petal.

  • To Enter This Gourmet Giveaway: First determine if you live near an Edible Arrangements store so the prize can be dropped off; it cannot be shipped. See the list of Edible Arrangements stores nationwide. If you do not live near one, you can still enter but you’ll have the prize delivered as a gift to someone who does.
  • Next, go to the box at the bottom of our Gourmet Fruits & Nuts Section and enter your email address for the prize drawing. This contest closes on Monday, February 1st at noon, Eastern Time. Good luck!

Love candy but can’t have sugar? On a diet but need sweet treats?

Caring Candies is the new sugar-free line in town (it’s imported from South Africa). It’s sweet stuff for people who can’t have regular sugar.

The sugar-free candies are excellent, with beautiful colors and no off flavors (they’re not as sugary as regular candy, which is just fine in our book).

There are delicious lollipops for kids and hard candies (bonbons) for adults, including “sours” for both.

The line is diabetes-friendly, tooth-friendly, all-natural and certified kosher.

FOOD HOLIDAY: National Irish Coffee Day

A few days ago we wrote about Burns Night, the holiday celebrated on January 25th to honor Scotland’s great poet, Robert Burns.

But to give equal time to the Irish, January 25th is also National Irish Coffee Day (here, not in Ireland).

This popular drink isn’t for waist-watchers, but we’re happy to celebrate the “holiday” on almost any day.

  • Take a minute to check out the history of Irish Coffee and our group of Irish Coffee recipes. It’s so easy to make that you can invite the gang over after work today for a mug or two.
  • You can also rent a movie starring your favorite Irish actor (the many choices include Daniel Day-Lewis, Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson).
  • And if you have time, make this Irish Coffee Cheesecake. If you can’t make it today, plan to try it soon!

Beans from Rick’s Picks, a NIBBLE
Top Pick Of The Week.

Planning Bloody Marys for your Super Bowl party?

Ditch that celery stick—a pickled vegetable will add more excitement to the classic cocktail.

Garnish your Bloody Marys with a dilly bean, pickled asparagus or carrot stick—or go Southern with pickled okra. You can pickle them yourself, or buy ready-made from two of our favorite picklers:

SUPER BOWL: Calorie-Saving Menu

We’re two weeks away from Super Bowl Sunday, a day where the snack planning is as important as the guest list.

Those snacks can add 1,000 calories or more to your day; and each beer is 150-170 calories per 8-ounce portion (porter and stout have higher calories).

Here are some tips to save calories on favorite Super Bowl snacks. They’re provided by THE NIBBLE and health and fitness expert Dr. Eric Plasker, best-selling author of The 100 Year Lifestyle and The 100 Year Lifestyle Workout.
